The principal goal of this section is to help formulate a district math and science curriculum and policy that meets the needs of students, satisfies state & federal requirements, and is sustainable.

A principal for whom I once worked said "choose what best for the kids."  May these words fit that goal.

Integrating Adaptive Assessment (AI) with Adaptive Instruction (AI)

These pages present a proposal to HeyMath!, a leading provider of online math instruction, to develop an AI product that assesses adaptively and provides higher levels of instruction when needed.  The ultimate goal would be to provide different types of instruction to fit the individual user.

Situation Background

These trends and research results can help guide decisions.

Meeting Student Needs

The coherence of the proposed system suggests that students needs are placed first, but that district and school requirements will also be met.  The district's proposed secondary math curriculum also is manageable and sustainable: emergency band-aid approaches to education need not be taken, but urgency and diligence is required.

Questions for Resolution

These concerns on the importance of Grade 7 Math, the timing of STAR tests, and impacts of two-year Algebra 1 need to be addressed.

2=3 Science

The difficulties of the science curriculum can be pointed as keeping science classes as two semester courses but using different texts (i.e. different curriculums) to teach them to different students.  The science curriculum can emulate the choices of the math curriculum and benefit students more.

New  Statistics Courses

The Statistics class will serve as a fine junior or senior math course for students not motivated to take AP Statistics or AP Calculus, but thinking of pursuing a liberal arts degree.  Statistics can also serve as an alternative third year math course to Trig/Pre-Calc.
